Sarawak DAP chairman to defend seat

SIBU, April 6 (Bernama) -- Sarawak DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng, 52, is defending his Bukit Assek seat against Chieng Huong Toon, 59, of BN-SUPP and Independent Hii Tiong Huat, 60.

Wong, who was accompanied by DAP Adviser Lim Kit Siang and about 200 supporters, was the first to submit his nomination papers at the SMC library hall here at 9.05am.

He was followed by BN's Houng Toon, who arrived about 10 minutes later accompanied by more than 200 supporters carrying BN and SUPP flags and banners.

Hii attracted the most attention, arriving at about 9.18am wearing sandals and clad in a yellow T-shirt with his name written in front, and waving to reporters and the security personnel at the entrance of the hall.

In Pelawan, BN-SUPP's Vincent Goh Chung Siong, 60, is defending his seat in a straight fight with the DAP's David Wong Kee Woan, 49.

David Wong was the first to file his nomination papers at the at SMK Sacred Heart Hall in Oya Road here.

For the Nangka seat, the contest is a straight fight between BN-PBB's Dr Annuar Rapaee, 47, and Norisham Mohamed Ali, 31, of PKR.

Annuar, a cardiologist, was accompanied to the nomination centre by about 1,000 party supporters led by popular community leader Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce and Datuk Shafiee Abdullah, a political secretary of the Prime Minister.
